The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the admit cards for the Combined Medical Services Examination (CMSE) 2024. This exam is conducted annually to recruit medical officers for various government departments and ministries.
This year, a total of 827 vacancies have been announced across various cadres, including Medical Officers in the Central Health Service, Assistant Divisional Medical Officers (ADMOs) in Railways, General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs) in New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), and GDMO Grade II in Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
The UPSC CMSE is a two-stage recruitment process consisting of a written examination (prelims) and a personality test (interview). The written exam is objective-type and assesses candidates’ knowledge of General Studies, Medical Science, and Aptitude. Those who qualify for the prelims are then called for the personality test, which evaluates their communication skills, personality traits, and suitability for the role.

Selection Procedure
1. Prelims Exam: This is a computer-based test with objective-type questions. It comprises two papers: General Studies and General Ability Test.
2. Personality Test (Interview): Candidates who qualify for the prelims will be called for an interview. The interview will assess the candidate’s personality, communication skills, and knowledge of the medical field.
Selection Criteria:
- The weightage for the prelims and interview is 2:1, respectively.
- The minimum qualifying marks for the prelims will be decided by the UPSC based on the difficulty level of the exam and the number of vacancies.
- Only candidates who meet the eligibility criteria and secure the minimum qualifying marks in both the prelims and interview will be considered for selection.

Exam Scheme and Paper Pattern
Paper 1: General Studies
- This paper will test the candidate’s knowledge of current events, history, Indian polity and economy, science, and technology.
Paper 2: General Ability Test
- This paper will assess the candidate’s reasoning ability, comprehension skills, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
Exam Pattern:
- Both papers will be objective-type (multiple choice questions).
- Each paper will carry 200 marks.
- The total duration of the exam will be 3 hours (2 hours for Paper 1 and 1 hour for Paper 2).
